Walter De La Mare Walk

Walter De La Mare walk: Poet & Novelist,1873-1956 -part of Penge Festival
The Walter De la Mare Walk is a mid-morning walk led by Mr Christopher O’Shaughnessy, and will last approx. 1.5 hours.
De la Mare was much admired and published during his lifetime and is an international literary figure. He was much admired by T.S. Eliot who wrote a poem for his memorial service praising the poet’s mastery of ‘the inexplicable mystery of sound’.
The walk starts at 10:00 from the Moon & Stars Public House on Penge High Street. The walk will take you to the various houses, including McKenzie road, that the poet and novelist lived in from 1899 to 1925.
Chris has spent many years as a resident of Penge devoting his time to his family and his love of the arts and the history of Penge: he’s a talented still -life painter, a reader of poetry, a playwright, a volunteer to two parks in the area and a true Friend of Penge.

Please wear comfortable shoes. Refreshments will be available at the end of the walk.
This is a free event but donations for the Penge Heritage Trail will be welcome.
